Demani Dusk, also referred to as Primary, is an observer of the Divine Fleet for the Rapid Evening. Her dispatches begin each episode of the Ship Game. She is Gray Gloaming's immediate superior.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

She is a black woman with her hair in a back-length braided mohawk. She has on dark lipstick and eye makeup. She wears high pauldrons over a tight, black hard-cased vest and a sleeveless purple undershirt as well as slick black slacks.[1]

Personality[edit | edit source]

She is more jaded than her partner Gray, with an awareness of the weight and authority of their position, which she compares to a loaded gun pointed at the Mirage.[2] However, she also encourages Gray to stay hopeful when she is dismayed by the confusion following the Miracle of the Mirage in "godspeed, glory Pt. 2".

History and Involvement[edit | edit source]

In order to protect the people of the Mirage, Gray and Demani scuttle the stellar combustor in Gray's station when Volition emerges as a threat. Their refusal to push the button leads to a shadow war within the Rapid Evening, supported by those loyal to Demani and Gray, until Crystal Palace declares the Mirage has stabilized.[3]

After the Miracle, Gray and Demani have gotten engaged and built an artificial asteroid out of space debris around Gray's station. They run a gathering place (described as a space shipping hub, truck stop, information brokerage, smugglers' den and diner) known as the Brink there. They welcome misfits like Morning's Observation (who first becomes a dishwasher for their diner and then part of their found family) and work to protect the Mirage from events like Dark Day.
