The giant vole is a large burrowing mammal native to the mountains of northern Hieron. Prior to the start of Winter in Hieron, Fero gains the ability to take its form. Unbeknownst to him at the time, in doing so he was creating a new animal that was heretofore unseen in Hieron.

True to its name, the giant vole resembles a massive version of the real-world rodent, about 5 feet tall and 8 to 9 feet long, not counting its tail.
The giant vole can burrow through stone, and has a venomous bite.
