Gig Kephart

From fattwiki

To go from “I had this idea on a whim” to “I'm going to make the world the way I want it to be.” How do you do it?

Gig Kephart is a utopian occupational safety vlogger played by Keith J Carberry.

Background[edit | edit source]

Gig is a broadcaster with a history of making entertaining OSHA-esque videos documenting safety standards.

Jam[edit | edit source]

Your jam is broadcasting yourself to the world. Not just what you hear and what you see, but everything. What you feel, what you think about during the piece you broadcast, associated memories, even the things you imagine, so long as you've got that plugged in.

– "The Telepresence" playbook, The Veil: Cascade

Gig has been equipped with a highly unique emotional broadcasting device and assigned to accompany the group of emissaries headed to Quire to document their mission and protect the interests of those already living on the planet.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Gig has light dyed hair and dark scruffy facial hair (not with a beard per se, just not clean-shaven). He wears heavily patched seafoam jeans, a low white tank top, and a pink light jacket. Like many people from Gumption's Gambit, his outfits are "slapdash but also coordinated", with unlikely juxtapositions that nevertheless work.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Gig is an optimistic and agreeable media personality with a knack for showing people his interest in and appreciation for them. His ability to feel sadness has been impaired by his stream suppressor.

Beliefs[edit | edit source]

  • Everything I've ever seen or felt could be useful to me again. "If the story's behind a locked door, break in."[note 1]
  • "I can change any situation with my knack for positive thinking."
  • "Echo values life on this planet as it already is, and I will back up their instincts."

Cybernetics[edit | edit source]

Gig has a unique and highly experimental device known as a stream suppressor in his brain, which allows him to broadcast sound, words, images, feelings, and memories across the Twilight Mirage. It is a much more powerful and flexible means of communication than that normally used between ships of the Divine Fleet, but as a side effect has impaired Gig's ability to experience sadness.

Gig also has a detachable flying eyeball, which he can use to look in a place separate from where his body is. It's a little twitchy, and a lot creepy (according to some).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Gig's last name has been spelled interchangably as Kephart and Kep-hart, however, Keith has stated that he does not use the hyphenated version[1].

'When I named gig I had just heard a recording of dick gephardt ass kissing a bunch of insurance execs but I thought the name was good. I ready had "gig" though' -- Keith J Carberry (Tweet)

'I think dick gephardt is a knob' --Keith J Carberry (Tweet)
