Live at the Table is a Patreon-funded Friends at the Table series dedicated to playing various indie games. Live at the Table games often do not share continuity, but some have taken place in existing settings developed in the main series of the show. Additionally, a number of Live at the Table games were combined into a singular setting known as the Grand Tableau to facilitate ease of running future sessions of Live at the Table on short notice.
Since the Patreon rework in March 2023, all Live at the Table episodes are streamed publicly, while mp3s remain available exclusively for Friend-tier+ patrons. The credits of Live at the Table streams display the names of Telepresence-tier+ patrons.
Format[edit | edit source]
Live at the Table streams may be announced a day or two in advance or simply earlier on the same day, with a stream link available via a post on the Patreon and Twitter. While casts may vary, Austin usually (but not always) carries on his role from main seasons and acts as the GM or facilitator for live games as well. In addition to the archived stream video, Live at the Table games are also posted to Patreon afterward as audio podcasts, sometimes being split into multiple parts or with pregame chat being saved for a Clapcast. In some instances, these podcast versions also have music by Jack or a spoken intro (as with the versions of the Road to PARTIZAN games posted to the main feed).
On occasion, the cast may choose to find a stopping point and plan to continue their game at a later date; while this is often the next stream, the need to schedule with the same cast members may mean that the game gets set aside for a longer period, and other games are played for the intervening Live at the Table sessions. One extreme example is the game of Dream Askew, which was paused after one episode and picked up again five years later as part of Bluff City season two.
As with other Patreon-exclusive series, Live at the Table games from before March 2023 were sometimes made public as a bonus or teaser for non-Patreon backers. In addition to Road to PARTIZAN and Road to PALISADE, these include the Fall of Magic series, Lasers & Feelings, the Misspent Youth game, and the GenCon liveshow.
