There is family issues, they're a criminal and was sent down to colonize the planet as a punishment for past crimes. "They've spent their whole life being told something is wrong with them. They have spent their entire life wanting to prove everyone wrong."
They were a thief and would bring stuff back to the slums that they're from and was arrested. As part of an investigation to a larger crime, and instead of jail was sent to the planet game.
